What is Vultr?

Strengths

Things to consider
- Cloud infrastructure requires technical responsibility. A Cloud Compute server is not the same as fully managed website hosting. Operating-system, application, update and security responsibilities depend on what you deploy.
- Stopping a server does not stop its billing. Vultr states that stopped servers continue reserving resources and continue accumulating charges. To stop server billing, the resource normally needs to be destroyed.
- Product availability can differ by location. Check the selected location before assuming every Vultr product or configuration is available there.
- Extra services can create additional costs. Storage, backups, bandwidth overages, load balancers and other resources should be reviewed separately from the base compute price.
- Beginners wanting a completely managed website may prefer another type of hosting product. Vultr can still host websites very effectively, but it is primarily cloud infrastructure rather than a beginner website-building service.
How to get started with Vultr
- Decide what you actually need: a virtual server, GPU, Kubernetes cluster, storage service, managed database or another Vultr product.

Important billing information
Vultr currently bills server products on an hourly basis. Most server types, including Cloud Compute, Optimized Cloud Compute and Bare Metal, use a monthly billing cap based on 672 hours. GPU products use a different billing calculation.
A particularly important point for new users is that a stopped server can continue accumulating charges because its allocated resources remain reserved. If you no longer require a server, check Vultr’s current deletion and billing instructions rather than simply powering it off.

Payment and account requirements
Vultr requires a valid payment method before resources can be deployed. Current supported payment methods include major credit and debit cards and selected third-party payment platforms, although available methods can vary.
