Namecheap is an established provider of domain registration, web hosting, managed WordPress hosting, business email, SSL certificates and related website services. It can be useful when you want several website essentials under one provider, but the right Namecheap product depends on whether you need a simple domain, shared hosting, managed WordPress or more configurable server infrastructure.

What is Namecheap?

Namecheap started as a domain registrar and now provides a wider range of online services. Its current product range includes domain registration and transfers, Shared Hosting, EasyWP managed WordPress hosting, VPS and dedicated hosting, Private Email, SSL certificates, DNS and other website-security services.

Domains and transfers

Namecheap is widely associated with domain registration and domain transfers. Domain prices vary considerably by extension, and an attractive first-year registration price does not necessarily represent the later renewal price. Before registering a domain, compare the registration, renewal and transfer prices for the exact TLD you want.

Namecheap currently provides Domain Privacy at no additional charge for eligible domain registrations, renewals, transfers and reactivations. Some domain extensions cannot use the privacy service because of registry restrictions.

Shared Hosting

Namecheap Shared Hosting is conventional multi-tenant hosting managed through cPanel. It is aimed at websites that do not require their own fully isolated virtual server.

Current Shared Hosting features advertised by Namecheap include cPanel, unmetered bandwidth, automatic SSL installation, website migration and Supersonic CDN. Plan limits differ, so check storage, website limits, backup features and renewal prices before ordering.

Managed WordPress with EasyWP

EasyWP is Namecheap’s separate managed WordPress hosting product. It may suit someone who wants a more WordPress-focused service without managing a traditional cPanel hosting account.

Shared Hosting and EasyWP should not be treated as interchangeable. Shared Hosting gives access to a conventional hosting environment and can run different applications, while EasyWP is focused specifically on WordPress.

VPS and dedicated hosting

Namecheap also sells VPS and dedicated hosting for workloads that need more resources or server control than Shared Hosting provides.

If your main requirement is flexible cloud compute, API-driven infrastructure, Kubernetes, GPU workloads or rapidly deployable virtual servers, you may also want to compare a cloud provider such as Vultr. The products solve overlapping but not identical problems.

Private Email

Namecheap Private Email is a separate business-email service for using addresses at your own domain. This is different from the mailboxes bundled with some Shared Hosting plans, so compare mailbox limits, storage, features and renewal pricing before choosing between them.

SSL and security services

Namecheap sells SSL certificates and additional security products. Shared Hosting also includes automatic SSL functionality, so do not assume you need to purchase a separate SSL certificate before checking what your selected hosting plan already includes.

Pricing and renewals

When comparing Namecheap, look beyond the first displayed price. CrazyiBuy recommends checking three numbers where applicable: the initial or after-trial price, the length of the first billing term, and the renewal price.

Namecheap currently includes Domain Privacy with eligible domain registrations, transfers, renewals and reactivations. Registry restrictions mean that privacy cannot be applied to every TLD, so verify eligibility for your particular domain extension.
